Warrior Weekend
Saturday, September 12, 2020, 9:00 AM - 4:30 PM
Join us for a spiritual retreat led by Pastor J. Brown.
Participants this weekend will be pointed to Jesus as the one who defends us from all evil. Saturday attendees will be invited to engage in Bible study, enjoy fellowship over lunch, join in a time of prayer, sing, participate in a Christ-centered self-defense workshop for beginners, and watch a high-energy board and brick breaking gospel presentation. Absolutely no experience in martial arts is necessary. The weekend will be far less about karate and more about the truth of spiritual warfare and how we, as soldiers of the cross, can be trained to “fight the good fight” of faith each and every day. While the weekend is designed for adults and teens, younger people who are old enough for Bible study and a concentrated time of prayer are welcome. Child care is not available for this event.
Pastor J. Brown is a graduate of Concordia University Texas and Concordia Theological Seminary. Brown, who holds an 8th-degree black belt, has studied the martial arts for over forty years and has operated several karate schools in Pennsylvania, Ohio, Indiana, and Texas. Before coming back to Texas to serve as the Director of Church Relations and head of the Pre-Seminary program at his alma mater, CTX, he served as parish pastor at two congregations in Fort Wayne, Indiana. In addition to kicking and punching, J enjoys cooking, stand up paddleboarding, traveling, and racquetball. Find out more about Concordia University's Church Relations Department here.
